The Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria, UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital chapter, has dismissed claims that its members earn salaries from two institutions

It clarified that honorary consultants only receive allowances for services rendered at the teaching hospital.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Olufemi Ojewuyi, the association explained that honorary consultants are primarily employees of Osun State University, where they serve as lecturers, and are secondarily engaged by the teaching hospital in a non-salaried capacity.

According to MDCAN, the consultants are compensated with allowances not salaries for their contributions to patient care, as well as the teaching and training of medical students and resident doctors, describing the arrangement as standard practice in academic medical systems.

The association said its clarification became necessary following allegations by Sally Tibbot Consulting, which claimed that MDCAN members were drawing salaries from two separate institutions.

Refuting the claim, MDCAN described it as “false and malicious,” stressing that honorary consultants are neither ghost workers nor beneficiaries of двой remuneration.

“Honorary consultants are not ghost workers. They are primarily university employees who also provide services at the teaching hospital where they receive allowances—not salaries. This is the standard practice,” the statement noted.

The association further urged the consulting firm to verify its facts before making public statements, warning against the spread of misinformation.

MDCAN also rejected allegations that its members caused disruption during a recent verification exercise, insisting that such claims were a gross misrepresentation of events.

Instead, it accused officials of the consulting firm of displaying unprofessional and unruly behaviour during the process.

Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, MDCAN emphasized its continued dedication to quality healthcare delivery and the training of future medical professionals.
