The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has raised concerns over a planned protest by the Joint Labour Movement, alleging that the action could trigger unrest and disrupt commercial activities in the state capital, Osogbo.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, called on security agencies including the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to maintain law and order.
.
According to the APC, the protest reportedly scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2026, is being coordinated by leaders of organised labour in the state, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC).
The party alleged that the labour unions had directed members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to mobilise workers across local government areas for a demonstration targeting branches of United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Osogbo.
APC further claimed that the protest could involve picketing bank facilities and disrupting normal business operations, warning that such actions might escalate tensions in the state.
“The planned protest is unnecessary and capable of plunging the state into avoidable crisis,” the statement read, urging labour leaders to reconsider their approach and prioritise peace.
The party also alleged that the protest may be politically motivated, linking it to recent developments surrounding the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke and ongoing disputes over local government administration.
It argued that issues relating to local government finances and administration are currently before competent courts, warning that any attempt to exert pressure through protests could amount to interference with judicial processes.
While commending workers who have reportedly distanced themselves from the planned action, the APC urged parents and guardians to caution their wards against participating in any activity that could threaten public peace.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stability in the state, particularly as preparations intensify ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
As of the time of filing this report, the leadership of the Joint Labour Movement and the Osun State Government had not issued an official response to the allegations.
