In a grand ceremony that celebrated centuries-old traditions, Chief Saka Awojodun has been appointed and formally installed as the new Jaaran Adimula of Ile-Ife, one of the highest-ranking chieftaincy titles in the ancient city.

The appointment, approved by the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, marks a continuation of the rich heritage and time-honored governance structures of the Ife kingdom.

The installation rites, held on Thursday at the Ile Oodua Palace, drew a large gathering of palace chiefs, traditional priests, and key members of the Ife community. The sacred rituals were meticulously conducted in strict observance of customs that have guided the appointment of high-ranking chiefs for generations.

Representing the Ooni, the Obalufe of Ife, Oba Idowu Adediwura, and the Lowa Adimula of Ife, Oba Adekola Adeyeye, led the installation proceedings at Oke-Emese within the palace grounds.

Following the formal rites, Chief Awojodun participated in a symbolic procession through major compounds and sacred sites across Ile-Ife, affirming his readiness to assume the responsibilities of his exalted office.

In his remarks, the Obalufe of Ife urged the new Jaaran to serve with integrity, humility, and loyalty to the throne of Oduduwa, emphasizing the importance of preserving the sanctity of the institution and upholding the customs that define the identity of the Ife people. Similarly, the Lowa Adimula charged Chief Awojodun to collaborate with other palace chiefs to strengthen unity within the traditional council and contribute meaningfully to the growth and stability of Ile-Ife.

Expressing gratitude to the Ooni, Chief Awojodun pledged his unwavering loyalty to the throne, promising to uphold the traditions, values, and responsibilities of the office. He assured the community that he would diligently protect Ile-Ife’s cultural heritage and support initiatives promoting peace, development, and unity in the ancient city.

Prior to his elevation, Chief Awojodun held the title of Yegbata of Ife and served as head of the Emeses at the Ooni’s Palace, roles that prepared him for the strategic and advisory functions now attached to the Jaaran Adimula. As a senior member of the Ife kingmakers, the Jaaran Adimula plays a pivotal role in palace decisions, including succession matters, and ranks immediately below the Lowa Adimula in traditional hierarchy.

With Chief Saka Awojodun’s installation, Ile-Ife continues to demonstrate the resilience and vibrancy of its age-old institutions, ensuring that the city’s cultural and spiritual heritage remains firmly anchored even as it navigates modernity.
