Accomplished public servant, veteran journalist Atandeyi dies

A foremost public servant and veteran journalist in Ondo State, Chief Oluwole Atandeyi, has passed on.

He died on Tuesday at 92.

His son, Engr Babajide Omotayo Atandeyi, said in a statement on Tuesday:

“With a deep sense of loss and humble submission to the will of God, we announce the passing of our dearly beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Chief
Adewole Omodayo Atandeyi – an accomplished public servant and veteran
journalist whose contributions greatly influenced government information
management in Ondo State, Nigeria.

He peacefully transitioned to glory on
Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at about 92 years of age.

Following the creation of Ondo State in 1976, Chief Atandeyi was appointed Chief
Press Secretary (CPS) to the State’s first Military governor, Commander Ita David Ikpeme.

In that role, he exemplified exceptional dedication, professionalism, and
clarity in articulating government policies to the public.

His distinguished career in
public service spanned several decades, culminating in his appointments as the
Director of Information Service in the Ondo State Ministry of Information and later as Director General in the Ondo State Civil Service, where he attained the pinnacle of his career before his well-deserved retirement.

He also served the state with distinction on the Board of Sketch Press Limited, the newspaper arm of the Odua Group, first as Director and subsequently as Chairman.

Widely admired for his integrity, wisdom, and steadfast commitment to public enlightenment, Chief Atandeyi leaves behind a lasting legacy deeply rooted in the foundation of the state’s information service.

He will be fondly remembered as an astute and diligent administrator, trailblazer, mentor, community leader, devoted Christian, and selfless servant of the people.

His passing is a profound loss to his family, the Anglican communion – where he has served faithfully in various capacities, the Akure community, and all who were privileged to know him.

His legacy of excellence and dedicated service will continue to inspire generations to come.

He is survived by accomplished children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Burial arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.”
