The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the results of Saturday’s area councils elections in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, which the party swept, as endorsement of the President Bola Tinubu leadership.
The party won the six area councils except Gwagwalada won by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
APC won Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Kuje, Abaji and Kwali area councils.
Also, the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, said the polls results reflect what he called the President’s visionary leadership.
Specifically, the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the FCT council elections as a resounding endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing reforms.
He said in a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Mr Abimbola Tooki, that the results affirmed Tinubu’s governance direction.
Yilwatda said the overwhelming support recorded by the APC, particularly in the FCT, reflected confidence in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu-led administration.
He said the outcome showed Nigerians believed the current reforms would ultimately steer the country towards sustainable progress and prosperity.
His words, “I heartily congratulate our teeming supporters in the FCT, Kano and Rivers on the peaceful and credible conduct of Saturday’s polls.
“The victories recorded by our great party are a clear testament to the resilience, unity and grassroots strength of the APC.”
According to him, the FCT Area Council results carried special national significance for the party and the administration.
“The Abuja election is a powerful statement that Nigerians stand firmly with President Tinubu and his bold reform agenda.
“As residents of the nation’s capital, their verdict sends a strong message of renewed hope and confidence in this administration’s ability to reposition Nigeria.”
He congratulated APC chairmanship candidates who won in AMAC, Kuje, Abaji, Bwari and Kwali, noting their victories underscored the party’s deep grassroots connection.
The chairman also congratulated the PDP chairmanship candidate who won in Gwagwalada, describing his emergence as proof that democracy prevailed.
He further congratulated four APC State House of Assembly candidates who secured victory in Kano and Rivers states.
Yilwatda said their success reflected effective party organisation and public trust in APC leadership.
He commended party leaders, stakeholders and supporters across the three states for their discipline and peaceful participation.
He also praised security agencies and election officials for professionalism during the polls.
Yilwatda said: “As we celebrate these victories, we must remain united and committed to delivering good governance at all levels.
“The message from the people is clear: they want results, accountability and continued reforms in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. The APC will not disappoint.”
Also, speaking during a broadcast in Abuja on Sunday, Wike thanked Tinubu for strengthening residents’ confidence in the ruling All Progressives Congress.
He described the results as evidence that the Renewed Hope Agenda has restored optimism and confidence among FCT residents, adding that the peaceful conduct of the poll demonstrated the people’s commitment to democracy and good governance.
The minister thanked residents for believing in what he called a renewed and credible democratic process championed by the Tinubu administration.
He also commended all candidates for participating in the election and upholding democratic values.
“Your participation is proof of your commitment to ensuring that the voice of the minority is heard, even when the majority prevails.
“Most especially, I congratulate the APC and the PDP for their victories. This election has shown Nigerians the ruling party and the real opposition party.
“Residents of the FCT have demonstrated that they cannot be deceived by emergency democrats who refuse to see anything good in our country,” he said.
Wike said Tinubu’s commitment to improving Nigerians’ lives, particularly in the FCT, had not gone unnoticed.
He expressed confidence that under Tinubu’s leadership, the FCT would remain a model of development and progress.
The minister praised the President for defending democracy, including supporting amendments to the Electoral Act to strengthen credible elections.
“This demonstrates his commitment to improving our democratic process,” he said.
He congratulated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what he described as a free, fair and credible poll.
He said the exercise reflected the administration’s resolve to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure transparent, reliable electoral processes.
“I commend the security agencies for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the election. Their efforts contributed greatly to this democratic exercise.
“To the winners, you have been given a mandate to serve. Do so with humility, dedication and a commitment to excellence.
“Work tirelessly to improve residents’ lives and bring development to our communities,” he said.
He commended residents, particularly in satellite towns, for turning out peacefully to exercise their franchise.
“Your participation affirms your trust in our democracy. Continue to support efforts to build a better FCT,” he urged.
Wike pledged that the FCT Administration would continue delivering the dividends of democracy in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
