Fresh controversy has erupted within the Omoluabi Progressives as its Deputy Leader and second-in-command, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, announced his withdrawal from the group, deepening speculation about widening internal disagreements and cracks within the political caucus.

Adeoti, a veteran politician and one of the founding figures of the Omoluabi Progressives—widely regarded as the political network loyal to former Governor Rauf Aregbesola—made his decision known in a formal letter addressed to the group’s leadership and members.

His resignation, coming at a time when the faction is already battling internal alignment issues, has been described by political observers as a major turning point for the movement, which has played a central role in Osun’s progressive political structure.

In the letter, Adeoti reflected on the difficult nature of his decision, recalling the enormous sacrifices, time, and energy he invested to ensure the group’s survival from its inception through its most challenging moments. He noted that he had stood firmly with the group during what he described as its “turbulent period,” helping to stabilise and strengthen it.

He explained that the decision followed deep personal reflection and persistent appeals from family members—both immediate and extended—urging him to take a short break from the pressures of political engagement after many years of frontline involvement.

“My decision to withdraw was never an easy one, especially each time I looked back and considered all my investments into ensuring the survival of the group throughout its turbulent period from its inception till date,” Adeoti stated.

However, despite his official explanation, sources within the Omoluabi Progressives suggest that Adeoti’s departure may be connected to unresolved internal disagreements, leadership mistrust, and friction over the direction of the group. Insiders describe a growing climate of dissatisfaction, particularly among senior stakeholders, over strategic decisions taken in recent months.

Multiple political analysts have also interpreted Adeoti’s withdrawal as further evidence of a deepening internal crisis, especially as the Aregbesola political family continues to struggle with cohesion following previous electoral setbacks and shifting alliances.

Nevertheless, Adeoti used the letter to express gratitude to members of the Omoluabi Progressives for the trust, respect, and support extended to him throughout his years in the group. He praised the camaraderie that existed among members and expressed optimism that the current leadership would steer the movement toward continued relevance.

“I want to specially thank every one of my fellow Progressives for the level of trust reposed in me while in the group. I wish the current leadership success in all the group’s future endeavours,” he added.

His withdrawal has triggered widespread reactions across Osun’s political landscape, with supporters, grassroots mobilisers, and analysts offering varied interpretations of the implications. Many believe his exit could lead to a deeper internal assessment within the group and may potentially reshape its internal power dynamics.

As of press time, the leadership of the Omoluabi Progressives had not issued an official statement in response to Adeoti’s resignation. However, insider reports indicate that consultations are underway to address escalating concerns and reassure members of the movement’s stability.

Alhaji Adeoti remains an influential figure in Osun politics, admired for his longstanding political experience and broad grassroots appeal. His next political steps are expected to attract significant attention from stakeholders within and beyond the state.
