Amotekun Corps in Osun State has debunked social media allegations claiming that its personnel assaulted and used mystical means to “charm” one Mr. Olaore Taiwo in Iragbiji prior to an alleged arrest.
It did this in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Yusuf Idowu Abass, in Osogbo on Wednesday.
According to the statement: “We wish to categorically state that these claims are false, malicious, and entirely unfounded. At no time did any officer of the Corps assault, arrest, or engage in any mystical act against Mr. Taiwo”.
It said Taiwo was never arrested. Rather, he was formally invited for questioning following a written complaint concerning alleged cyberbullying and defamation against the Corps and its operatives.
“The invitation was in response to several unverified and damaging posts made by Mr. Taiwo on social media, in which he accused the Corps of extortion and other unlawful acts,” Abass explained.
He added that Taiwo’s actions constitute a violation of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, specifically Section 24, which criminalizes cyberbullying, online harassment, and defamatory communication.
Abass noted that Taiwo voluntarily honored the invitation, was interviewed in a civil and professional manner, and was thereafter transferred to the Police Headquarters in Osogbo for further investigation.
“At no point was he detained, assaulted, or subjected to any form of harm—physical or mystical,” he emphasized.
The Amotekun spokesperson reiterated that the Corps is a law-abiding, apolitical, and community-focused security outfit, established to protect lives and property across Osun State.
“We operate strictly within the bounds of the Nigerian Constitution and all enabling laws,” he affirmed
Abass described the allegations as a deliberate attempt to discredit the Corps, undermine public confidence, and politicize its lawful operations.
He urged members of the public to disregard the false narratives and avoid sharing unverified information that could cause panic or incite unrest.
“The Osun Amotekun Corps remains committed to community policing anchored on professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights. We will not be deterred by malicious distractions,” the statement concluded.
Abass also expressed appreciation to the people of Osun State for their continued support and encouraged them to channel any complaints through appropriate legal and administrative processes, rather than resorting to social media smear campaigns.
