Egbe Omo Ilaje Worldwide, the umbrella sociocultural organisation of the Ilaje people, a sub-group of the Yoruba race, has raised a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate the attack on a prominent monarch in Ondo State, the Olu of Igbokoda, Oba Afolabi Odidiomo
The royal father was reportedly assaulted by an influential community leader on June 2, 2025, during the official flag-off of the Igbokoda – Okitipipa road dualisation project by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa .
The attack, a taboo in Yorubaland, has sparked outrage among indigenes and traditional institutions.
It allegedly involved one Chief in the community raising concerns over growing tensions in the coastal community.
A statement by the President-General of the group, Prince Iwamitigha R. Irowainu, tasked the committee with unearthing the remote and immediate causes of the “embarrassing and ugly incident” and to recommend steps to prevent any recurrence.
The five-member panel includes:
1. Engr. Adeniyi Aribo (Okitipupa) – Chairman
2. Elder Solomon O. Oladunjoye (Ebute-Metta, Lagos) – Secretary
3. Elder Bamidele D. Ojamomi (Ondo City) – Member
4. High Chief Bode Nana (Ore) – Member
5. Mrs. Bola S. Edema (Okitipupa) – Member
The committee has been given seven days to submit its findings to the President-General for consideration and possible action.
While addressing the development, Prince Irowainu urged residents, particularly the people of Igbokoda Kingdom, to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that justice would prevail.
His words, “We appeal to all Ilaje sons and daughters to remain peaceful as we await the outcome of the committee’s work. This is a time for unity, not division”.
Also, the body’s Secretary-General, Rev. Edamisan R. Ogunfeyijimi, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to protecting the dignity of the Ilaje Nation and called for maturity and due process in addressing the matter.
