At least 10 Catholic bishops from the Lagos Archdiocese and the Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province are expected to attend the 10th Episcopal Ordination Anniversary of the Catholic Bishop of Osogbo Diocese, Most Rev. John Akin Oyejola.
The anniversary celebration, scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, 2026, will also feature the dedication of the newly completed St. Benedict Catholic Cathedral, Popo, Osogbo.
The solemn thanksgiving Mass and dedication ceremony will take place at the cathedral beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Speaking at the recent Diocesan Pastoral Council meeting held in Ede, the Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Osogbo, Very Rev. Fr. Thaddeus Ajayi, disclosed that bishops from the Lagos Archdiocese and Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province have confirmed their participation in the event.
He described the occasion as a significant milestone in the life of the diocese and called on priests, religious faithful and the laity to turn out in large numbers to celebrate Bishop Oyejola’s decade of episcopal ministry.
According to him, the dedication of St. Benedict Catholic Cathedral marks another landmark achievement for the diocese and reflects years of commitment, sacrifice and collective effort by the clergy and faithful.
Preparations for the celebration have reached an advanced stage, with the cathedral wearing a new look ahead of its dedication, while parishes across the diocese are making arrangements to participate in the historic event.
The anniversary is expected to attract members of the clergy, religious leaders, government officials, traditional rulers and Catholic faithful from within and outside Osun State.
