Citing long-standing internal crises and irreconcilable national leadership disputes, two senators representing Osun State in the National Assembly, who were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have resigned from the party.
The two, Senators Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi, representing Osun Central District; and Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi (Osun East) tendered their resignation letters to their respective party ward leaders, in what is believed to be preparatory to the planned rumoured defection of Governor Ademola Adeleke to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Both, in separate letters addressed to their respective ward chairmen, claimed that their action was due to the “irreparable division” and “protracted legal battles” that have plagued the PDP since the 2023 general elections.
They said that the situation has led to entrenched factions and leadership paralysis at the national level, rendering their continued membership untenable.
Fadahunsi, who chairs the Senate Committee on Industry, in his resignation letter dated June 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP party chairman in Ward 4, Obokun Local Government of Osun State, said he dumped the party after consultations with his family and political associates.
He wrote, “I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect, due to the irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles that have bedeviled the party at the national level after the 2023 general elections.
“This was concluded after consultation and engagement with my political associates, family, and friends. It is my wish that you accept my resignation in good faith.
“Thank you for your understanding.
Also, Senator Fadeyi, who chairs the Senate Committee on Environment, described the PDP crisis as “irreconcilable,” regretted that multiple court cases and litigations had severely undermined unity within the party over the past three years.
He wrote, “This decision was reached after wide consultations with my political associates, family, and friends.”
