One person has reportedly died while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries after a trailer allegedly rammed into supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a campaign procession in Ede, Osun State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Oke Gada area of Ede during a “Walk for Ambo Victory” organised by supporters of APC governorship aspirant, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as Ambo.
The accident was disclosed by the Head of Media and Publicity for the Bola Oyebamiji “Ambo for 2026” Governorship Campaign in Ila/Ifedayo/Boluwaduro Federal Constituency, Mr. Olufunsho Fagbohungbe, in a post on his Facebook page.
According to Fagbohungbe, the driver of the trailer claimed that the vehicle suffered brake failure before crashing into the APC supporters participating in the campaign walk.
“Sad! A trailer whose driver claimed he had brake failure ran into our APC people doing their Walk for Ambo Victory at Oke Gada, Ede. It claimed a life already and left many severely injured,” he wrote.
Eyewitnesses said the incident caused panic among participants as the trailer reportedly veered off its path and ploughed into the crowd.
Several injured persons were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention, while sympathisers and emergency responders moved quickly to assist victims at the scene.
The identity of the deceased had not been officially released as of the time of filing this report.
The tragic incident cast a shadow over the campaign activity and generated concern among party supporters and residents of the area.
When contacted, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun State Command, Mrs. Agnes Ogungbemi, said the command had not received any official report regarding the incident.
She explained that the command was currently mourning the loss of one of its officers and had yet to obtain details of the reported accident.
“I have not received any report on the incident,” she said.
Also reacting, the Director of Media and Information of the APC in Osun State, Mr. Kola Olabisi, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the party had dispatched a team to ascertain the actual cause of the accident.
Olabisi said the team was expected to submit its findings, after which the party would provide more detailed information on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
“We have sent a team to investigate the incident and determine what actually happened. As soon as the team returns with its findings, we will be in a position to provide more details,” he said.
As of press time, Osun State Police Command and other relevant authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the accident.
Efforts to obtain further details on the condition of the injured victims and the circumstances surrounding the crash were still ongoing.
The incident comes amid heightened political activities across Osun State as political parties intensify preparations ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
