Prof Femi Mimiko
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the outstanding contributions of a former Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Prof Femi Mimiko, to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.
Of particular interest to him is what he described at the don’s towering contributions as a scholar, an administrator, and a nation-builder.
Mimiko, now a Professor of Political Science at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is serving as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja.
In a congratulatory letter personally signed and dated May 8, 2025, the President Tinubu praised his distinguished career in the academia and public service.
He said, “On this occasion of your 65th birthday, I extend my warmest congratulations and admiration for your exceptional journey as a scholar, leader, and nation-builder,
“Your remarkable academic career, half of which you have spent as a full professor, has had a profound impact on generations of Nigerian graduates.
“Your dedication to education and mentorship is truly commendable.”
He specifically highlighted Mimiko’s tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State (2010–2015), where he was widely praised for his prudent management of resources, commitment to student welfare, and emphasis on merit-based leadership.
Also, he noted his academic accomplishments, including his participation in the prestigious Senior Executive Course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), where he earned the highly respected “mni” title.
Additional accolades include a Visiting Professorship at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, and his ongoing role at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, all of which the President highlighted in his letter.
The President noted with pride, Mimiko’s contributions to community development, which earned him the revered traditional title of Jomulaja of Ondo Kingdom, conferred on him by the Osemawe of Ondo zKingdom, Oba Adesimbo Kiladejo, Jilo III.
Looking ahead, he expressed confidence in his continued relevance to national discourse, saying, “As you enter this new chapter, I urge you to remain a vital voice in shaping our nation’s future.
“Your insights will be invaluable to the success of our Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to leverage education and innovation to build a brighter Nigeria”.
