RUGIPO Management commends Aiyedatiwa for clearing staff salaries, confirming Rector’s appointment

The Management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, RUGIPO, has commended Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for clearing outstanding staff salaries, and confirming the appointment of Dr. Olorunwa Simon Adegun as the substantive Rector.

In a statement by the Senior Assistant Registrar, Public Relations and Protocol, Mr Olumide Olugosi, the institution’s Management appealed to its striking workers to call off their ongoing industrial action and resume their normal duties.

Following is the full statement, titled “RUGIPO MANAGEMENT COMMENDS GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION, SEEKS END TO STRIKE”:

“The Management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, under the leadership of the Rector, Dr. Olorunwa Simon Adegun, has commended the Ondo State Government under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for its timely intervention in addressing critical issues affecting the institution.

“The Management particularly appreciated the clearance of outstanding salary arrears, noting that the development has brought significant relief to members of staff and represents a positive step towards resolving the challenges facing the Institution.

“Management also welcomed the constitution of a Government Committee to review the implementation of the new minimum wage at the institution, describing the move as a structured and credible platform for addressing staff concerns through due process and constructive engagement.

“According to Management, the Polytechnic is fully prepared to cooperate with the Committee by providing all necessary information required to facilitate a fair and sustainable resolution, while reaffirming its commitment to working with staff unions and other stakeholders towards a mutually beneficial outcome.

“While acknowledging these developments, Management appealed to staff unions to reconsider their position on the ongoing industrial action, noting that the payment of salary arrears and the establishment of the Committee have opened a pathway for meaningful resolution of outstanding issues.

“Management emphasised that this is a period for constructive engagement rather than a prolonged standoff, adding that continued disruption could adversely affect students, the academic calendar, and the overall reputation of the institution.

“It further urged all stakeholders to remain committed to dialogue in the interest of peace, stability, and the continued progress of the Polytechnic.

“Management reiterated its commitment to transparency, fairness, and the welfare of staff, assuring that all concerns are being addressed through appropriate and established channels.”
