Members of the Ifelodun Plank Dealers Association, Alekuwodo, Osogbo, have commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, for fulfilling his promise to reconstruct damaged culverts, retain walls and drainage facilities in the market.
The traders, who expressed their appreciation during a celebration at the market, said Oyebamiji’s intervention had helped to protect their businesses and structures from the threat of flooding and erosion.
The Chairman and Secretary of the association, Pa Joseph Olabode and Mr Olatunde, respectively, said the damaged drainage and retaining walls had previously caused serious flooding in the area, resulting in damage to shops, goods and other structures.
They described his decision to execute the project despite losing the governorship election as a demonstration of integrity and commitment to the welfare of the people.
The traders said they had raised the need for urgent intervention when he visited the market during the electioneering campaign, adding that he subsequently kept his promise.
“We, members of the Ifelodun Plank Dealers Association, wish to sincerely thank and appreciate our very own APC governorship candidate in the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, aka AMBO, for keeping to his promise.
“He has assisted us by erecting the drainage walls to safeguard our shopping complex from total collapse. For those who did not know how this place was before, the damaged drainage and retaining walls had put our complex at risk.
“We thank Asiwaju Oyebamiji for coming to our aid at the critical time we needed assistance,” they said.
According to the traders, the intervention became particularly important during the rainy season, when floodwaters threatened their businesses and livelihoods.
“We are grateful to Oyebamiji because when the rains came and our shops were threatened by flooding and erosion, he remembered us. We specifically requested this when he came to visit us during the electioneering. He promised to build it, and today, he has built it.
“Even after what happened in the election, he still fulfilled his promise without delay. This is a promise made and a promise kept. This is what defines a man of integrity and honour,” the association said.
They added that the newly reconstructed drainage and culverts would allow water to flow freely and reduce the risk of flooding and erosion around the market.
“This act will indeed save our businesses, our goods and our means of livelihood. With this intervention, water can flow easily through the waterway without hindrance, and the threat of flooding has been greatly reduced,” the traders said.
The association further described the project as an example of people-oriented leadership, saying that Oyebamiji had demonstrated that public service should not be limited to periods of political campaigns or the holding of public office.
“With this intervention, Oyebamiji has shown us that true leadership is about service to the people, not just about position. The drainage walls and culverts he built for us have given us peace of mind and protected our complex from destruction,” they added.
The plank dealers prayed for continued success in Oyebamiji’s career and expressed their appreciation for what they described as his timely intervention in addressing a problem that had posed a serious threat to their businesses.
They also urged other political leaders and public office holders to emulate the gesture by responding to the needs of communities irrespective of political circumstances.
