Femi Oyetola, son of former Osun State governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, has withdrawn from the race for the Osun Central Senatorial seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Monday and addressed to the Osun APC chairman, Oyetola said his decision followed extensive consultations and the intervention of the party leadership aimed at preserving unity and stability within the party.
He noted that the decision was difficult due to the overwhelming support and encouragement he received from youths and stakeholders across Osun Central, who voluntarily purchased the nomination form on his behalf.
“I write with deep respect, gratitude and an abiding commitment to the unity and progress of our great party, the APC, to formally withdraw my aspiration to contest for the Osun Central Senatorial seat,” he said.
According to him, the confidence reposed in him by supporters and party members remains one of the greatest honours of his political journey, especially the desire of young people to see a new generation contribute actively to governance.
Oyetola explained that after consultations and the counsel of party leaders, he resolved to step down in the overall interest of the APC’s electoral success and cohesion.
“As loyal party members, we must always place the collective interest of the party above personal ambition,” he stated.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals and vision of the APC, pledging to continue working with party leaders, members and youths towards strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
The APC chieftain also urged his supporters and political associates to remain calm, steadfast and united behind the decisions and leadership of the party.
“This is not the end of our collective aspirations, but another demonstration of sacrifice, discipline and dedication to party unity,” he added.
