Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to Osun State to remain neutral, law-abiding, and professional ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The governor gave the charge during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch A, Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede.
Adeleke emphasised the non-partisan nature of the NYSC scheme, urging corps members to conduct themselves with discipline, responsibility, and respect for constituted authority, especially as the state prepares for a crucial democratic exercise.
“As you may be aware, Osun State will be approaching a significant democratic exercise with the forthcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for August. I urge you all to remain law-abiding, neutral, and committed to the rules guiding your service,”
He assured the corps members that Osun remains peaceful and accommodating, encouraging them to integrate with their host communities, respect local traditions, and contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.
The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to their safety, noting that adequate security measures have been put in place in collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure a conducive service environment.
Responding, the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Ekeng Ita Kubiangha, also advised the corps members to maintain neutrality and professionalism at all times.
He warned against involvement in partisan politics or any activity that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process or their personal safety, noting that some corps members may be engaged as ad hoc staff during the election.
Kubiangha disclosed that about 2,600 corps members, comprising 1,200 males and 1,400 females, were deployed to the state for the service year.
He added that the delayed commencement of the orientation course in Osun was due to renovation works at the camp, which necessitated a slight adjustment to the schedule.
The coordinator further urged corps members to remain security-conscious, adhere strictly to camp rules, and keep NYSC authorities informed of their movements throughout their service year.
