Osun APC debunks rebranding vehicles in Accord colours, calls for police probe

Osun State

Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on security agencies to subject vehicles branded in the colours of the Accord Party to stop-and-search operations.

The was sequel to allegations that the opposition party rebranded its vehicles in Accord colours to perpetrate violence ahead of the governorship election in the state

The call was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the APC Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, in reaction to allegations made by the Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, Pastor Victor Akande.

Akande had alleged that the campaign council of the APC governorship candidate was rebranding some of its vehicles in Accord Party colours with the intention of carrying out attacks and blaming them on Governor Ademola Adeleke.

However, the APC dismissed the allegation as false, baseless and politically motivated, insisting that it had no plans to engage in acts capable of disrupting the peace of the state.

According to Olabisi, the party remains committed to a peaceful campaign and has no reason to resort to violence in its bid to secure victory for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).

The APC further accused the Accord Party of attempting to divert public attention, alleging that its political opponents were known for accusing others of actions they intended to carry out themselves.

The party urged security agencies to keep close watch on Accord Party leaders and supporters, citing recent incidents of political violence in parts of the state, including Ile-Ife, Owode-Ede and Osogbo.

“It is worrisome that a supposed man of God could join politicians to fabricate such grievous allegations against our governorship candidate’s campaign council,” the statement said.

Questioning the credibility of the allegation, the APC asked why the Accord Party did not immediately alert the police if it had credible information about the alleged rebranding of vehicles.

The party therefore called on the police and other security agencies to conduct stop-and-search operations on Accord-branded vehicles across the state, saying such measures would help expose those behind any criminal activities and ensure public safety.

As of the time of filing this report, the Accord Party had not responded to the APC’s latest remarks.
