Osun State Amotekun Corps has warned peddlers of defamatory stories against its staff to desist from such act or be ready to face the full weight of the law.
The state’s Amotekun Corps commander, Dr Adekunle Omoyele, gave the warning through a statement by the agency’s public relations officer, Mr Idowu Abbass.
He said the Corps received report of a faceless write-up by suspected disgruntled elements against one of its adhoc staff, Olagunju Olusola Joseph.
The statement said the agency decided to respond to defamatory posters circulated in Osogbo, which falsely accused its staff of using a fake identification card and fake uniform of Amotekun.
It said, “The Corps emphasized that these claims are baseless and part of a malicious campaign by individuals seeking to undermine its achievements.
“The statement urged the public to disregard the posters and reiterated that the agency remains committed to combating crime in the state. Effort is ongoing to track those behind the acts to serve as a deterrent to others alike.
“The agency called for a stop to such damaging and libelous acts that may likely mislead the public while the agency would continue to do its best to rid the criminals from the entire state and discharge its duties within the purview of the law going to track those behind the act to serve as a deterrent to others.
“The general public are hereby advised to jettison the fake news urging people to make use of their … useful engagement rather than circulating defamatory report capable of undermining the integrity of the agency whose core mandate is to secure lives and properties of the citizens of Osun and beyond.”
