Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Dr. Adekunle Omoyele, has debunked allegations that he received a Toyota Hilux vehicle from Dr. Deji Adeleke, elder brother of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
He descried the claim as false, politically motivated and an attempt to undermine the security outfit.
Omoyele made the clarification in a statement issued on Friday through the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, CSA Yusuf Idowu Abass, in response to allegations by the Forum of APC former Legislators.
The Corps Commander maintained that the Osun Amotekun Corps has remained apolitical, professional and committed to its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property since its establishment.
He said attempts to drag the Corps into partisan politics were unnecessary and capable of distracting officers from their core security responsibilities.
Speaking on the controversy surrounding the alleged vehicle allocation, Omoyele noted that while some security agencies recently received patrol vehicles from APC local government chairmen, the Osun Amotekun Corps was excluded despite operating closest to the grassroots.
He questioned why the Corps had continued to come under political attacks, insisting that its loyalty remained with the people of Osun State and not with any political party.
“The Osun Amotekun Corps belongs to the people of Osun State, not to any political party. Our loyalty is to the law and the safety and security of our citizens,” he said.
Omoyele also defended the need for an official vehicle to enable the Corps Commander effectively supervise security operations across the state, stressing that adequate mobility is essential for efficient service delivery.
Quoting a Yoruba proverb, he urged political actors to refrain from making allegations capable of eroding public confidence in security institutions, warning that politicising security agencies could undermine public trust and weaken the fight against crime.
He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and supporting all lawful efforts aimed at strengthening security across Osun State.
