accuses APC of sponsoring alleged division
Accord Party has disowned the parallel governorship primary in Osun State, reaffirming that its December 10, 2025 primary election was lawful, transparent, and conducted in line with the Electoral Act, 2022.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Minna, Niger State, the National Treasurer of the party, Chief Abdulazeez Oyeniyi Salaudeen, said the exercise was supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and monitored by security agencies, the media, and accredited observers.
According to Salaudeen, the primary election had 150 duly accredited delegates, out of which Governor Ademola Adeleke, the party’s sole aspirant, secured 145 valid votes, while five ballots were declared invalid due to improper thumb-printing.
He said the transparent conduct of the exercise underscored the party’s commitment to internal democracy, adding that he personally chaired the Electoral Committee that conducted the primary.
“The process was open and credible, with INEC officials, security operatives, media representatives, and observers present throughout the exercise,” Salaudeen stated.
The Accord chieftain rejected claims of a rival primary allegedly conducted by individuals he described as former party members expelled in early 2024, alleging that the move was a calculated attempt to destabilize the party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Salaudeen accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State of sponsoring the purported parallel exercise in order to sow confusion within the Accord Party.
> “As a party, Accord has no factions. We remain united under the leadership of our National Chairman, Barrister Maxwell Ngbudem, and the National Secretary, Hon. Adebukola Abiola Ajaja,” he said.
“Those claiming to have conducted a so-called primary election were expelled from the party since early 2024. Their action is unknown to INEC and has no legal backing whatsoever.”
He further revealed that leaders of the Accord Party in the North Central Zone met on Saturday, December 14, 2025, where they unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the current national leadership of the party.
Salaudeen reiterated that the party would not be distracted by what he termed “anti-democratic forces,” stressing that Accord remains focused on offering the people of Osun State a credible political platform ahead of the 2026 governorship race.
