About six weeks before the November 16 Governorship Election in Ondo Stata, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Deputy governorship candidate, Mrs. Susan Alabi has resigned from the party and quit the race, citing no reason for the sudden action.
Her notice to quit both the party and the race was contained in a letter dated 2nd October 2024, and addressed to the National Chairman of SDP, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, and copied the state chairman of the party.
Alabi who said her resignation takes immediate effect, appreciated the party for the honor of picking her as the SDP governorship candidate running mate.
According to the letter: “I am writing to formally resign from my membership in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) effective immediately.
“This decision was not made lightly as I have valued my time with the party.
“However, after careful consideration I believe it is in my best interest to pursue new opportunities and directions.
“Please also note that I have given notice of my resignation as the SDP Deputy governorship candidate in the 2024 governorship election to Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (Oba) the SDP governorship candidate.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity and for your support during my time in SDP.
“Thank you for your support and camaraderie during my time with SDP. I wish the party continuous success in its future endeavours”
The Director General of the SDP candidate, Femi Ikoyi, while reacting to the development, said he was not aware of the resignation of the governorship candidate’s running mate.
He said ” I am hearing it from you and I am not aware of Mrs Alabi resignation”
