- bans phones use during school hours by secondary school students
Ondo State Government has approved the establishment of a College of Education at Obenla in Ilaje Local Government Area.
It also banned the use of phones in both private and public schools across the state by students during school hours, warning that any student caught flouting the ban, will be dealt with, and the phone will forever be forfeited.
The government announced these on Wednesday through the Commissioner of Education and Technology, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun while briefing Journalists at the Ministry’s conference hall.
It said the measure became necessary due to the inability of many of them to concentrate in class during lectures. It was learnt that , the students do come to school with different classes of phone which has henceforth been banned.
The commissioner announced that more emphasis were also made on Safe School Initiative adding that the committee has been set up by the governor, headed by the Education Commissioner and other security agencies.
On the issue of the striking lecturers in the state owned four tertiary institutions, he said that the problem of strike will soon be resolved.
Ajibefun regretted that communication gap between the government and the Union really caused the delay in the actualization of the payment of what was due to the teachers.
He assured that the Governor, who is the Visitor to the institution’s, has held a meeting and that the strike will soon be over any moment from now.
Also speaking, Idowu Ajanaku, the Information Commissioner said a decision has been reached to have the State College Of Education sited at Obenla in Ilaje Local Government area of the state.. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is an Indigene of Obenla.
Ajanaku said also that the government is planning ahead through establishment of the college and that more teachers will soon be employed.
He therefore urged every one to study a science oriented course to help the society more and be scientifically inclined for the betterment of the society.
