The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged woman who was captured in a viral video allegedly threatening police officers with a knife during an argument over her arrest for suspected cannabis sales.
The incident reportedly occurred in Ijebu Igbo, the headquarters of Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state.
In the video, the woman, dressed in a green gown, was seen sitting inside a vehicle while allegedly raining insults and curses on police officers said to have arrested her over the sale of cannabis, popularly known as Indian hemp.
She was later seen stepping out of the vehicle with a knife and moving towards a young woman believed to be one of the officers recording the confrontation.
Speaking in Yoruba, the woman reportedly questioned why she was being targeted by the police, claiming that others were also involved in the sale of cannabis.
She was heard saying, “Why are you troubling us, are we the only ones selling Indian hemp? And you have continued to harass us repeatedly, it will never be well with you….”
The video subsequently circulated widely on social media, drawing attention to the confrontation and the woman’s alleged threats against the officers.
Confirming the arrest on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the matter was already under investigation.
Babaseyi said, “The suspect has been arrested and the matter is already under investigation.”
The Ogun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN, also confirmed that the woman was expected to be arraigned in court.
