The Nigeria Labour Congress, Kebbi State Council, has commended Governor Nasir Idris for approving consequential salary adjustments and responsibility allowances for primary school teachers in the state.
The state NLC Chairman, Murtala Usman, gave the commendation in a statement on Monday, describing the development as a major boost to the welfare of primary school teachers.
Usman said the approval of the new salary structure, alongside responsibility allowances, represented a significant intervention in the teaching profession in Kebbi State.
He described the responsibility allowances as unprecedented in the state and the northern region, noting that the measure demonstrated the governor’s commitment to improving teachers’ welfare.
According to him, better welfare for teachers would contribute to strengthening primary education, which remains the foundation of the education system.
“We commend the governor for the kind gesture extended to primary teachers and we rejoice with them for the new salary structure and the responsibility allowances. No doubt, it will give teachers a new sense of belonging,” Usman said.
The NLC chairman assured the state government of the union’s continued support for policies and initiatives aimed at improving workers’ welfare and advancing the development of Kebbi State.
Usman, however, urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by demonstrating greater commitment to their duties, maintaining professional standards and ensuring effective service delivery in their classrooms.
