The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has arrested two drivers following a road accident involving a Toyota Highlander and a commercial Mazda bus at Otedola, inward Berger, near Jubilee Gate, Lagos State, which left four passengers seriously injured.
The crash occurred during the morning rush hour on the main carriageway, prompting an emergency response by LASTMA operatives and officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service.
In a statement, the agency said the four injured passengers sustained serious injuries, including multiple fractures, and were rescued from the wreckage before being transported to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at the Toll Gate for treatment.
LASTMA said its personnel immediately mobilised to the scene, coordinated rescue efforts and introduced traffic control measures to ease congestion and prevent further accidents.
The agency noted that the incident occurred along a busy transport corridor during the morning peak period, when heavy traffic increased the risk of further collisions.
It added that the swift intervention of its operatives helped avert a possible secondary accident involving other motorists and commuters.
Security personnel from the Isheri Police Division also assisted during the rescue and recovery operations, helping to secure the scene and ensure the safety of emergency responders.
Following the incident, LASTMA operatives apprehended both drivers and handed them over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives, the Federal Road Safety Corps, LASAMBUS personnel and police officers from the Isheri Division for their prompt response and cooperation.
Bakare-Oki stressed that effective emergency management depended on rapid mobilisation, adequate preparedness and coordination among relevant agencies, particularly along busy roads where delays could worsen the consequences of accidents.
He urged motorists to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations, maintain safe speeds and avoid distractions while driving.
The LASTMA chief warned that preventable road crashes continued to pose a serious threat to lives, public safety and the movement of people and goods across Lagos State.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening traffic monitoring, improving emergency response and enforcing road safety regulations to reduce accidents and ensure smoother traffic movement across the state.
