Lagos guber race: I’m not stepping down – Sanwo-Olu

A Lagos state governorship aspirant of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Tuesday, said he is still very much in the Lagos APC gubernatorial ticket race with no plans to withdraw or step down.

This is coming after rumours filtered that the governorship aspirant has withdrawn his intention to run and would not be contesting the ruling party’s governorship ticket.

“Let me state this for the records, I have NOT and I am NOT planning to withdraw, neither step down my candidacy,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“As we approach the due date for the APC primaries, I enjoin all our supporters to disregard any such insinuations. I am IN THE RACE. ÌGBÉGA ÈKÓ TI DI ÀJÙMỌ̀ṢE,” he added.

There have been controversies over the political future of the incumbent Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode after a speculated rift between him and national leader of APC Bola Tinubu.

The speculations also said Sanwo-Olu not only has the backing of Tinubu to deny Ambode a second term during the party’s primaries but also that of the Mandate Movement, a political group loyal to the APC national leader.

However, the political future of the State’s governor is unknown after Sanwo-Olu and former Lagos State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Obafemi Hamzat obtained nomination form to challenge Ambode in the APC primaries scheduled for September 29th.
