- says Ekiti election will hold
By John Dike Osogbo
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) as the party’s legitimate leadership, while rejecting a request to postpone the upcoming Ekiti State governorship primaries.
It rejected a letter, dated November 6, 2025, and signed by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Samuel Anyanwu, who presented themselves as Acting National Chairman and National Secretary of the PDP.
INEC, clarified that the duo are not recognized officials, citing prior formal notifications from the PDP regarding their suspension from office.
Abdulrahman and Anyanwu had asked the Commission to shift the November 8 primaries, citing alleged logistics concerns.
But INEC dismissed the request, stressing that only correspondence from the duly recognized National Chairman and National Secretary of the PDP is valid for party–INEC communication.
According to the electoral body, the PDP had earlier informed it of disciplinary actions taken on November 1, 2025, against Abdulrahman, Anyanwu, and several others for alleged violations of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), including activities deemed contrary to party interests.
These actions were later ratified at the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan on November 15, 2025, where Kabiru Turaki was formally elected National Chairman and the disciplinary decisions— including expulsions—were upheld.
With INEC’s latest confirmation, the PDP’s Ekiti governorship primaries are set to proceed as scheduled, closing the door on attempts to alter the party’s primary election timetable.
