Oyo State

The police have arrested the perpetrators and collaborators behind the various killings in Akinyele area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The community which has been enmeshed in series of killings including women, girls and even a five year old boy under various guises had been in the news for negative reasons

Although, the police have yet to made public the identities of those arrested, a top government source hinted that about 95 percent of what should be done had been done.

The Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr Fatai Owoseni, gave the hint on Wednesday while speaking with reporters at a Special Town Hall Session on the state of Insecurity in Akinyele area of the State.

The event, facilitated by an Ibadan based radio station, Jamz 100.1FM at the Award Hall, Akinyele LG, Moniya, Ibadan was attended by stakeholders including lawmakers, community leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups among others.

While noting that the police are on the verge of prosecuting the arrested suspects, Owoseni, a retired Commissioner of Police assures that the government will put together all the submissions, suggestions and ideas from all the stakeholders and put them to use.

Owoseni said “The security and law enforcement agencies, especially the police that is saddled with the investigation of that case have covered a lot of grounds. I can say that, as of now, about 95 percent has been done.

“Why I said 95 percent is because, it is one thing to apprehend a principal suspect in a case, and his conspirators, it is another thing to prosecute successfully.

“I can say unequivocally that the principal suspects have been apprehended. Some of the people that conspired too have been apprehended and the next thing is to bring them to justice and then move on to make sure that all the measures and suggestions that people have put in together, we don just talk talk and talk but work the talk.

“That everyone that is a resident of Oyo state and particularly in Akinyele, plays his or her own part because security and safety of ourselves, we are all involved and the citizens also have their obligations. While we also continue to encourage the security agencies to also carry out their obligations diligently.

“With the level of work done so far by the police, I can tell you authoritatively that the police has nabbed the perpetrators, their sponsors and collaborators. What is left is for police to take them to court to account for their deeds.

“But we will not wait there alone. It is one thing to arrest the perpetrators and it is another thing for us all to collaborate and work together to ensure our safety and that we as people and residents also have roles to play in our safety and security and not that we should leave it to the government and security agencies alone.

“We all must play our roles as we should while we also appeal to the security agencies to also do their jobs well while also not playing along with criminals.

Those arrested included suspected ritualists, according to Owoseni.

Owoseni said the suspects would soon be paraded by the Oyo State Police Command.

He said: “Even though there is no town where there is no sin, I can assure you as I speak that the perpetrators of the killings in Akinyele have been apprehended.

“As of Tuesday, the criminals have been apprehended and the Commissioner of a Police would possibly hold a press conference today. But I can specifically tell you that the person behind it has taken police to the ritualists and they are now behind the bars.”ALSO READ
