The Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State, has expelled 12 students and suspended five others for various offences, including armed robbery, cult-related activities, drug abuse, cyberbullying and attempted sexual assault.
The university also issued warning letters to five other students over offences committed both within and outside the institution.
The disciplinary actions followed the consideration of the report of the 20th meeting of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ahmad Mohammed Gumel.
The university’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Yahaya Bello, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the statement, six of the expelled students were found guilty of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, while two others were sanctioned for robbery and cult-related activities.
The institution further expelled one student for phone theft and two others for drug abuse on campus.
The five students who were rusticated were sanctioned over attempted sexual assault and cyberbullying.
Four of the affected students were rusticated for two semesters, while the remaining student was suspended for one semester.
Meanwhile, five other students were issued warning letters over offences including cyberbullying, attempted sexual assault and drug abuse committed off campus.
The university said the sanctions were imposed after the disciplinary committee reviewed the cases and made its recommendations.
The affected students are from various faculties and departments of the university.
The management said the disciplinary measures were part of efforts to uphold discipline and ensure compliance with the institution’s rules and regulations.
