Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has declared that the completion of his administration’s mega infrastructure projects across the state has unsettled the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the party as being in “acute political depression.”
The governor made the remarks while reviewing his re-election campaign after touring nine local government areas, where he commissioned completed projects and canvassed support ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke expressed appreciation to residents for what he described as the overwhelming support received during his campaign visits to Osogbo, Iwo, Ila, Ilesa, Ile-Ife and other communities.
According to the governor, the large turnout of supporters reflected public approval of his administration’s performance in infrastructure development.
“I have toured nine local governments. The massive show of support is astounding. Osun people appreciate our various projects from Osogbo to Iwo, Ila, Ilesa and Ile-Ife. Where Osun APC failed, my administration performed and our people are testifying,” Adeleke said.
The governor alleged that the APC attempted to frustrate his administration by withholding local government funds but maintained that his government successfully delivered major projects despite the challenges.
“Osun APC tried to stop our state from developing. The opposition diverted over ₦350 billion of Osun local government money in its bid to stop the execution of major projects. Today, we have completed the projects and are commissioning them to the glory of God and humanity,” he stated.
Adeleke said all infrastructure projects executed by his administration complied with due process and best engineering standards under the state’s local content policy.
“We adopted the best engineering practices. Our procurement process complied with the law and due process, while our local engineers, suppliers and technicians delivered quality jobs across the state. We are also providing maintenance packages to ensure the durability of these projects,” he added.
The governor further claimed that the APC had become disorganised following what he described as its inability to halt his administration’s developmental agenda.
“Ever since the Osun APC failed to stop our developmental agenda, the party has fallen into disarray. It suffers from acute political depression. Its leaders are quitting on a daily basis and defecting to Accord. But Osun people are trooping out to welcome us wherever we go in the state,” he said.
Adeleke thanked residents of Iwo, Ifelodun, Boripe, Odo Otin, Ejigbo, Atakunmosa, Ife South, Ayedire and Ola-Oluwa local government areas for their support, assuring communities yet to receive his campaign team that they would be visited before the election.
The governor also urged voters to remain vigilant ahead of the poll, warning them against surrendering their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) or National Identification Numbers (NIN) to anyone.
“I charge Osun people to reject the current psychological warfare being waged by the Osun APC. Don’t hand out your PVC to anybody. Don’t release your NIN. These are plots to swindle and disenfranchise you.
“On August 15, your votes will count. Nobody can rig this election. Your vote will determine the winner. I urge Osun people to ignore rumours, come out to vote and defend their votes,” the governor stated.
