calls for unity ahead of 2027

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has affirmed former Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, as the leader of the party in the South-West, while calling on party leaders across the zone to close ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He made the declaration while addressing a cross-section of ADC leaders from the South-West at a meeting convened by the party’s zonal chairman, Hon. Akin Omole.
The former Vice President in a statement signed by Adelani Baderinwa, Secretary of the Osun State chapter of the ADC, said the leadership of the ADC in the South-West had never been in dispute, declaring Aregbesola as the leader of the party in the region.
He said Aregbesola had earned the leadership position through his experience in politics, having occupied important political offices and demonstrated capacity in political mobilisation and organisation.
Atiku commended the South-West leadership for convening the meeting, saying efforts would be made to reconcile differences among party leaders in the zone for the overall interest of the ADC.
He urged leaders across the six South-West states to put their differences aside, close ranks and work together towards strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former Vice President said unity among the leaders was necessary for the party to consolidate its structures and pursue its political objectives in the region.
Earlier, Omole told Atiku that the party had experienced persistent disagreements and disquiet across the six South-West states, which he said had affected the progress of the party.
He explained that the meeting was organised as part of efforts to identify the sources of the disagreements and find solutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Omole appealed to Atiku and other leaders present at the meeting to assist in resolving the challenges identified in the region.
He also presented to Atiku the report of a committee constituted to examine the situation of the party across the South-West.
The meeting subsequently called on party leaders to reconcile their differences, strengthen unity and work collectively towards building the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
