APC announces National Assembly primary election, appeal committees

News

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the composition of the Primary Election Committees and Primary Election Appeal Committees for the upcoming National Assembly Primary Elections.

The party made the announcement on Friday in a press statement signed by National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

The APC has also urged all members and stakeholders to uphold transparency and fairness, and remain peaceful during the exercise.

The ruling party had earlier on Friday postponed its primary election for the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a revised timetable released by the party, the primary election earlier scheduled for Friday, May 15, was shifted by one day to Saturday, May 16, 2026.

The adjustment was announced in a statement signed by Morka, with the party, however, retaining all other dates in its primary election schedule.

Under the revised timetable, the Senate primary election will hold on Monday, May 18, while the State House of Assembly primary is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20.

The governorship primary election will take place on Thursday, May 21, while the presidential primary is slated for Saturday, May 23.

The APC did not provide any official reason for the postponement of the House of Representatives primary.

The development comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general election.
