Amotekun Corps in Osun State has begged politicians not to drag it into partisan controversies, as it affirmed its neutrality in all its operations.
It made the appeal following recent allegations by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) against the Corps of harassment, brutality, and politically motivated arrests.
The corps in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Yusuf Idowu Abass, dismissed the allegations as false, baseless, and politically motivated.
He said, “We categorically reject these allegations as false, baseless, and politically motivated.
“Amotekun is a non-partisan, community-based security outfit created by law to safeguard lives and property across Osun State”.
Abass said that all Amotekun operations are conducted in line with the law, guided by intelligence, and executed in collaboration with other security agencies.
He said that attempts to politicise the work of the agency were meant to mislead the public, and undermine community safety.
Also,he defended the leadership of the Corps Commander, Chief Adekunle Omoyele, describing him as a disciplined and transparent professional whose efforts have earned the respect of community leaders, traditional rulers, and residents across political divides.
His words, “The Corps has never, and will never, engage in politically motivated arrests.
“Suspects are apprehended strictly based on intelligence and handed over to relevant authorities in accordance with due process”.
Addressing persistent attempts to revive old allegations against Omoyele, Abass stressed that no competent court has ever found him guilty of any wrongdoing, and that his appointment followed rigorous background checks.
“We urge the public to disregard the sensational claims made by APM, which appear to be driven by political desperation rather than genuine concern for justice,” the statement added.
Abass reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to maintaining neutrality and professionalism.
He said, “While we welcome oversight and constructive engagement, we will not be distracted by politically charged propaganda aimed at derailing our mission.”
