In view of the passion he has put into the establishment and operation of the regional security outfit, Amotekun, Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has been described as the generalissimo of the Southwest, whose achievement the entire nation is proud of.
Giving this description is the state chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Engr Ade Adetimehin, who commended the governor for the way he “has led the region in securing the life and properties of the people of the Western Nigeria and, by extension, the rest of the country through the Amotekun security outfits.”
A statement by the party’s Director of Media & Publicity, Mr Steve Otaloro, FHNR, said Adetimehin expressed the view at Ode-Irele, headquarters of Irele Local Government Headquarters during his visit to party members, leaders and Irele LG party executives.
He was accompanied on the tour by the newly inaugurated State Executive Committee members, being the first leg of the statewide visits of the State ExCo to all the 18 LGAs in the state.
It said Adetimehin urged all party members to remain committed and prepared to continue to work for the interest of the party in the state and the country, saying “Unity speaks to the greatness of our party and will make us greater still. This is the time; this is the moment to build afresh and unite the party the more.
“On the recent national convention, all APC members in the state are winners because our primary interest is to strengthen and unite the party”.
He saluted the foresight and vision of the leadership of the party for evolving a strong political platform as a vehicle to strengthen democracy, and give the citizens hope for a better tomorrow.
He said:“As the foremost political party in the state, the APC should continue to lead by example with an utmost sense of responsibility in order to set the pace in the march to consolidate and stabilize our leadership in the state. I urge all our members to remain united and place the party’s interest above personal ambition as we ply our way towards the coming elections”.
According to the statement, “Also, the Chairman directed the Irele LG Executives Committee members to constitute the Elders Council and the Leaders Forum for the LG as it has become imperative for these two committees to be constituted in the local government areas for quick resolution of disputes and for them to serve as advisory body in the local government. He spelled out the criteria for party members before being considered to serve in any of the two committees.
“The Chairman praised the people of Irele LG for their unwavering loyalty to the progressives party and sought for the continuation of their support for the party. He commended the people of the local government for their overwhelming votes for the APC in the last elections where the party recorded one of the highest leads in the state. He noted that Irele people are known for their absolute and unshakable loyalty for whatever they are committed to.
“The APC chairman of Irele LG, Mr Zachariah Akindele Omoge, in his welcome address, expressed happiness for the visit of the State Chairman and the State Executive Committee. He said the visit has afforded members of the LG to have a good interface with the state team. It is very timely and would provide ample opportunities for the people to speak their minds to their leaders in the state in order to warranted contentious issues.
“Mr Omoge, emphasized the changing face of politics in the LG as that of a one party affair as most of the politicians and political gladiators in the LG have found their ways into the party. This he attributed to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s good work in Ondo State as enduring legacies.”
