Ondo State Dputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, has announced plans to fully fund the establishment of a music department in the Ondo State School for the Visually Impaired, Owo.
A statement by his spokesman , Mr John Akinduro, said he made this promise during his familiarization visit to the school on Monday.
Speaking with students and staff of the institution, Adelami commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the timely release of grants, which has helped in the running of the school.
He explained that his decision to sponsor the establishment of the music department in his private capacity was driven by his passion for skills acquisition and empowerment of children with special needs.
“Equipping visually impaired students with musical and vocational skills would not only boost their confidence, but also prepare them to become self-reliant and productive members of society.” the deputy governor emphasized.
Commending the management of the institution for the cleanliness of the premises and facilities, Adelami assured them of his continued support towards initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and learning environment of the students.
In her welcome remarks, the school principal, Mrs Ibironke Balogun, appreciated the deputy governor for the visit and lauded the Ondo state government for the timely payment of grants to the institution.
She presented a list of requests to the deputy governor, highlighting some of the priority needs of the school requiring urgent attention.
