A senior lecturer, professor of Chemistry at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, AAUA, and a social critic, Prof Christopher Olumuyiwa Aboluwoye, has passed on..
He reportedly died on Thursday April 9, at UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Ondo during an illness.
Born on August 8, 1961, he attended Anglican Grammar School, Ijare near Akure, where he obtained the West African School Certificate in 1978.
He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Ibadan in 1984, master’s degree in 1986 and doctorate degree in Chemistry from the same university.
He specialised in Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Protein Structure and Folding.
Aboluwoye joined the services of Adekunle Ajasin University in 1989 and rose to the position of Associate professor in 1998. In 2003, he was appointed a professor.
In 2004, he became a member of the University Governing Council, the same year he was appointed the Dean of the Faculty of Science, a position he held for four years.
On April 2008, he was appointed the National Chairman, Committee of Deans of Science in Nigerian Universities, a position he held till date.
He served as director of research at Adekunle Ajasin University. On August 23, 2007, he delivered the third Adekunle Ajasin University inaugural lecture titled “Chemistry On Earth As It Is In Heaven”.
He was a member respectively of Science Association of Nigeria;Institute Of Chartered Chemists Of Nigeria; Chemical Society of Nigeria; and Iranian Society of Biophysical Chemistry.
He is survived by three children.
