Aiyedatiwa nominates deputy

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has forwarded the name of Dr Olayide Owolabi Adelami, MNI, to the state’s House of Assembly for screening as the Deputy Governor-nominee.

Already, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji has confirmed that the House has received the name.

While receiving the letter on behalf of other lawmakers on Wednesday in his office, Oladiji said that the Governor’s action is in line with Section 191(3)b&c of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

The Chairman, House Committee on Information, Honourable (Chief) Olatunji Oshati, confirmed the receipt in a statement, saying
the nomonee who hails from Owo in Owo Local Government Area of the State “is expected to appear before the House tomorrow, 25th January,2024 for screening.”

A former Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Adelami who hails from Owo, the same home town of the departed Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, was born over 60 years ago by Pa and Mrs Amos Adelami of the Oluka Oribokun family.

He schooled at Imade College, Owo before proceeding to The Polytechnic, Ibadan for his GCE A level and University of Lagos for his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration. He further got an MBA degree from Ogun State University.

He joined the Federal Civil Service as an Accountant II in December, 1983 serving at the Treasury Department of the Accountant General of the Federation office.

In 1988, he was posted to the National Assembly Provisional Office, Abuja as one of the pioneer staff of the Constituent Assembly which metamorphosed into the present day National Assembly.

Adelami set up the Finance and Accounts Department of the National Assembly and in 1996, he set up the Accounts Department of the Petroleum Special Trust Fund.

Also, he served at the Family Support Trust Fund where, again, he set up the Finance and Accounts Department. He headed these departments between 1996 and 2000.

Notably, the National Hospital, Abuja project was executed and delivered during Adelami’s service period.

He was recalled to the National Assembly in 2000 to strengthen the Finance Department. Three years later, he was made the Head of the Finance and Accounts Department. He remained in this position till 2007 when he was confirmed as a Director.

The following year, he was nominated for a one-year senior management course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos.

In 2008, he was assigned the task of pioneering the newly created Department of Procurement and Supplies, where he embarked on staff training and nurtured the department to an enviable position.

He was, in 2014, promoted to the position of Secretary (Permanent Secretary), Directorate of Procurement, Estate and Works,from where he was appointed as the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, where he served till he retired in April 2018.

Adelami veered into politics shortly after his retirement when he was appointed by the presidency as the Coordinator, Presidential Support Committee, Ondo state, whose mandate was to reconcile aggrieved APC members, as well as coordinate the activities of the various support groups across the state for the president’s reelection.

He is an active member and fellow of several professional bodies including:

– Fellow of the Certified National Accountants of Nigeria (FCNA) -1994;

– Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM) -2001;

– Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCTI) -2006; and

– Fellow of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountant (FCMA) -2006.
