Osun says Justice Oyebola Ojo remains Chief Judge

Osun State

At last, after weeks of needless confusion and tension marked by brickbats thrown here and there among brothers and sisters, Osun State Government has declared that Justice Oyebola Ojo remains the Chief Judge of the state.

The tension had become heightened when court workers in the state under the umbrella of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, protested allegedly against the CJ and later declared an indefinite strike to press their demands

But now the table has turned as government has stepped in to calm frayed nerves and ensure normalcy by declaring that contrary to popular belief, it has not relieved the CJ of her appointment, a power the Constitution vested only in the National Judicial Council, NJC, and which must follow the due process.

The state government clarified the position through the Commissioner for nformation, Hon Oluomo Kolapo Alimi at a press briefing saying there is no other chief Judge in the state except Justice Oyebola Ojo.

He said: “The government has not appointed any other chief Judge in the state and as such, Justice
Oyebola Ojo remains the CJ.”

Alimi said that Governor Ademola Adeleke had earlier sent a letter notifying the NJC about the matter, contrary to the alleged insinuation that he did not inform the NJC of the development.

He advised critics to courageously find out the true position of things before criticising the Governor who he described as performing.

Notably the national body of JUSUN had dissociated itself from the protest and strike actions of some of its members in the state against the Chief Judge following her suspension by the governor.

It decried the action of those it described as unscrupulous elements causing confusion in the name of the Union in the Osun State Judiciary.

JUSUN admonished its members in Osun state not to allow themselves to be used by desperate politicians.

In a circular by the National President of JUSUN, Comrade Marwan Adamu which was signed by his deputy, Comrade Emmanuel Abioye and addressed to the Osun chairman of JUSUN which was copied, The Chief Registrar, Osun State High Court, JUSUN warned judiciary workers in Osun to desist from turning themselves to tools in hand of politicians.
