Osun renews curfew on Orolu, Irepodun

Osun State

Osun State Government has extended the curfew imposed on Orolu and Irepodun Local Government Areas to avert a probable clash between two neighbouring communities in the areas.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Hon. Oluomo Kolapo Alimi said Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed that the curfew remains in force to maintain law and order in the affected communities.

It said: “Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed that the Curfew placed on Orolu and Irepodun local governments continues.

“The Curfew time has now changed to the hours of 6pm every night, and 6am in the morning. Human and vehicular movement is to be restricted during the curfew till further notice.

“This is to forestall attempts of destruction of lives and properties during this period, because of the land dispute.

“Anyone caught wandering or moving around in Irepodun and Orolu local governments during the curfew period will be arrested and prosecuted appropriately.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke reiterates the need for peace between these two local governments, and asked that the ethos of Peace, Love and Unity which the state is known for, be imbibed.

It will be recalled that intelligent reports from security agencies indicated that there was a rising tension and internecine strife between Ilobu and Ifon townships on Wednesday night.

It was gathered that security agencies have been mobilized and drafted to the affected communities to prevent possible breakdown of Law and Order.

Police sources said some residents of both towns were seen with Pump Action Barrels, and Dane guns, and clubs with other dangerous weapons planning to unleash terror in the town tonight.
