Osun State House of Assembly has expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of ongoing reconstruction of the Osogbo-Iwo Road.

It urged contractor handling the project to speed up work to ease transportation between the two major towns.

The Adhoc committee of the Assembly expressed the displeasure during an on-the-spot assessment of the project to ascertain the level of work done.

The Assembly had earlier summoned the contractor handling the project to the hallowed chambers where the House expressed dissatisfaction on the slow pace of the job.

An adhoc committee was immediately set up by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Wale Egbedun to oversee the project and ensure its timely completion.

The adhoc committee, headed by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Akinyode Oyewusi led other members of the committee on the spot assessment inspection of the work done so far.

The inspection team which also included engineers from the Ministry of Works as well as the contractor transversed the entire stretch of the road project beginning from the popular ‘Dele Yes Sir’ Roundabout in Osogbo.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the inspection, the Deputy Speaker said the task was to ensure that Osun people whose taxes and levies are being used to execute the project get value for their money.

He said the present administration wants to ensure that all roads are put in good condition to encourage investors into the state and fast-track economic growth and development.

Oyewusi emphasized that the exercise was not a witch-hunt but to ensure that the project is done according to specifications and delivered on time for the benefit of Osun people.

The lawmakers then charged the contractor handling the project to speed up work and at the same time deliver according to specifications.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. Bashir Bello expressed his sincere appreciation on the oversight function being performed by the State House of Assembly, noting that it will improve the rapid development of all infrastructures across the state.

The Permanent Secretary who was represented by the Director of Highways at the Ministry, Engr. Moruf Ojebode said the legislators are truly leading by example with a determination to rapidly develop Osun State.

He said: “I must express my sincere appreciation to the Hon. House of Assembly members for this genuine and sincere oversight function. This will greatly bring positive improvement to all infrastructural delivery”.
