New facts have emerged on why the former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Nuhu Gidado, resigned from office.
In his resignation letter dated May 16, he had told Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar that he left government because of “dampened spirit and waning enthusiasm for the job.”
However, it was gathered that the combination of Gidado’s close relationship with the camp of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and his recurring ill health played major roles in his decision to quit.
It was also gathered that his resignation has added to the worrisome number of high profile appointees and government officials who have resigned from Abubakar’s cabinet.
Fir instance, Shehu Barau Ningi resigned as commissioner for Budget and Planning, citing “lack of an enabling environment” and Abubakar’s style of leadership which allegedly alienates subordinates and “makes it difficult to make meaningful contributions.”
Several government appointees have followed suit with Ningi’s resignation and Gidado’s is the most high profile one till date.
Nevertheless, the governor, has accepted Gidado resignation. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Ali M. Ali, he wished Gidado well in his future endeavours.
He described Gidado’s tenure and service to the state as “meritorious and, therefore, deserving commendation.
“The governor particularly commended the former number two citizen of the state for the remarkable manner of his resignation.”
The aide added that the governor “expressed optimism that he will avail his vast wealth of experience to the state anytime he is called upon in the future.
“We received the resignation of our Deputy Governor, Nuhu Gidado. On behalf of the people of Bauchi state, I want to thank him for his meritorious service while in office.
“ He remains vital to our administration and party. I wish him well in his future endeavours, and he can count on me for support.”
