Senatorial Candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ondo South in the 2023 General Elections, Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim, CFR has called for a truce between the clashing farmers and wood merchants of Koseru farm settlement, in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday by Spokesman of the Jimoh Ibrahim Senatorial Campaign Council, Mr Yemi Akintomide.

According to the statement “The settlers of Koseru community, who are mainly kolanut farmers from Osun, Oyo and Kwara States had complained to him of incessant destruction of their economic trees and plantations, including kolanut and cocoa trees by wood merchants of Ikale extraction who on daily basis, allegedly cut off the economic trees for commercial purposes and exporting activities.

“A community leader, Pa. Asimiyu Akano who spoke on behalf of the people when the Senatorial candidate visited the community on Monday, as part of his ongoing “Ward to Ward Familiarisation Tour” of the party formations across the 66 wards of the Ondo South Senatorial District, used the opportunity to ask for intervention on the incessant clashes which had been on for over three years.

“Pa. Akano said that settlers had been living peaceful and dutifully with their Ikale landlords for over 70 years, until recently when the destructive wood merchants invaded their farmlands, raping, maiming and inflicting injuries on their wives and children in the process of falling their economic trees and plantations.

“Responding to the demand of the people, Ibrahim immediately put a call across to the State Commissioner of Police and formerly notified him of the security need of the community.

“As you know, I am an Ikale man, but I will never support an injustice of any nature and to any group or people. I just called the commissioner of police now to report your security concerns, and I will take further step to have a discussion with Abodi of Ikale and other tanditional rulers in Ikaleland to put a total stop to such threat.

“Although, I am not here today for the campaign proper, I am very disturbed with the condition of your road and other plight. I promise to come back before the election to empower our party loyalists with the Aseyori membership cards. So, go and register and get your Aseyori membership card.

“I will also bring a grader here soon to work on your bad roads and make it passable and accessible to the rest communities with the council area.

“The Senate hopeful who was accompanied by a prominent APC leader in the State, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN visited Odigbo wards; Aiyesan, Araromi Obu, Ago Alaiye, Oniparaga and Koseru.

“The Aseyori tour will continue on Tuesday as the entourage moves to other wards in Odigbo local government area, including; Ebijaw, Onisere and Agbabu.

“The tour of the 66 wards of Ondo South Senatorial District kicked off last Thursday, in Ileoluji/Okeigbo local government area where the people had thronged out en masse to identify with the candidacy of Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim, CFR.”
