In compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, banning the use of Spy plate number, the Ondo State Police Command has started enforcement of the ban.
A statement by the command’s spokeswoman, SP Funmilayo Odunlami said the move was to “curb the excesses of using the plates number to disregard and violate traffic rules and regulations and other extant laws.”
She said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Oyeyemi Adesoye Oyediran “has ordered the immediate enforcement of the ban i.e confiscation of any Spy Plates Number in use within the command including the ones used for escort purposes.
“The Police and other Security Agencies in the command have been directed to immediately embark on seizure of SPY Plates Number in use within the state.
“Vehicle owners are hereby advised to revert to their Original registered number plates and also cooperate with the police in the enforcement of this order.
“The CP has also warned that the enforcement must be carried out with utmost sense of diligence and professionalism.
“In the same vein, policemen and personnel of other security agencies attached to VIPS are enjoined to ensure compliance to avoid being arrested for flouting this order.”
