President Buhari in a meeting with Governors Nyesom Wike, Ifeanyi Okowa, Emmanuel Udom and Seriake Dickson
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with four governors from the South-south region of the country.
The governors, all from the opposition People’s Democratic Party, include Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State.
The meeting holding inside the president’s office at the State House, Abuja, commenced around 3 pm after Buhari returned from his condolence visit to Kaduna.
NAN reported that the meeting might have discussed the Supreme Court verdict on the oil-bearing states of the Niger Delta on October 24.
Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states had approached the Supreme Court for the interpretation of Section 16(1) of the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contract Act in suit number SC964/2016 filed on their behalf by their lead Counsel, Mr Lucius Nwosu.
The section mandated the Federal Government to adjust the shares of the revenue accruable to the federation whenever the price of crude oil exceeded $20 per barrel.
