Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Mr Ifedayo Abegunde, this morning, resigned from the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu administration, thus ending weeks of speculation about his voluntary exit from government.

The resignation takes immediate effect.

He said in his three- paragraph letter of resignation dated July 6, 2020: “I, Hon, Ifedayo Sunday Abegunde hereby tender my letter of resignation. I want to thank Mr Governor for giving me the opportunity to serve the Government and people of Ondo State.

“I want to thank Mr Governor for giving me the opportunity to serve the Government and people of Ondo State.

“Again, my Family and I wish Mr. Governor quick recovery.”

Speculations which had been rife in the past few weeks, got to a crescendo two weeks ago when the Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi decamped from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, into the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to actualise his governorship ambition.

Abegunde had been rumoured to be working closely with Ajayi on the return to the PDP, their joint former political base.

Abegunde, a former House of Representatives member representing the Akure North/South Constituency between 2003 and 2007, was appointed by Akeredolu as SSG in March 2017.
