The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has set a target of one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections following what it described as successful ward meetings across the state’s 203 wards.
The party said the meetings were aimed at strengthening its grassroots structure, promoting unity among members and mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election bid and other APC candidates in the state.
In a statement, the state APC Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, expressed satisfaction with the turnout, describing the exercise as a significant step towards consolidating the party’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.
Babatunde commended Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for providing leadership and promoting unity within the party. He said the governor had directed elected officials and political appointees to participate in the meetings and personally attended the gathering in his ward in Ilaje Local Government Area.
The chairman also praised the governor for making it possible for members of his cabinet to participate, adding that logistical support was provided to enable party members, including those travelling long distances, to attend the meetings.
He noted that the impressive turnout was particularly encouraging because the meetings were held on weekdays, unlike the party’s usual weekend gatherings.
Babatunde said the ward meetings would become regular engagements ahead of the elections, with party members expected to intensify mobilisation at the community level to achieve the one-million-vote target for Tinubu and secure victory for other APC candidates.
He added that he would meet with Aiyedatiwa within the week to present feedback from the 203 wards and discuss strategies for subsequent meetings.
The Ondo APC reaffirmed its commitment to working with the governor to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and deliver electoral victories in 2027, describing the successful meetings as evidence of the effectiveness of its mobilisation strategy.
