Owo kingmakers have reaffirmed the selection process and the election that produced Prince Ajibade Ogunoye as Olowo-elect.
The reaffirmation, which came 14 days after his election as the Olowo-Elect by the kingmakers, is in accordance with the provision of the Olowo of Owo, Ondo State Chieftaincy Declaration,
Ogunoye, a Permanent Secretary in the Ondo State Civil Service, emerged the Olowo-elect after scoring 14 votes out of 15 votes of the kingmakers, in the election that held at the Olowo palace in Owo, on July 12, 2019.
The election was conducted by the senior Omolowos, led by the Ojomo Oluda of Ijebu-Owo, Oba Kofoworola Oladoyinbo,
The Chairman of the Kingmakers who is also the Ojumu of Owo, High Chief Olanrewaju Famakinwa, declared the reaffirmation on Friday in a brief ceremony which took place in the Olowo’s palace.
He said,”The reaffirmation provision of the chieftaincy declaration which is imperative must be performed within 14 days after an Olowo-Elect might have been presented to the kingmakers, which is three days after the election.”
The high chief noted that the brief ceremony would go down in the annals of Owo history as it was the first of its kind in the community.
In his remarks at the occasion, the Director of Local Government Administration for Owo Local Government, Mr. Segun Omojuwa, admonished the kingmakers and the people of Owo to support the Olowo-elect to sustain the existing peace in the community.
While responding, the Olowo-elect, Prince Ajibade Ogunoye, described the event as historic as the affirmation by the kingmakers was unanimous.
He reiterated his commitment to moving the ancient town forward. He also promised to ensure that peace reigns in the town.
