The Osun State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged murder of a resident of Ikire, Seun Ajayi, with an axe, two double-edged knives and three mobile phones recovered during the operation.
The suspects were identified as Nurudeen Ademakinwa, 30; Agboluaje Usman, 23; and Awoniran Toheeb, 20.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Thursday.
According to the police, Ajayi was allegedly attacked and macheted to death at a barbing salon in the Oja-Ale area of Ikire on October 3, 2026.
The statement said the victim was at the salon with a friend when some hoodlums allegedly stormed the premises around 6pm and attacked them with dangerous weapons. The friend reportedly escaped and subsequently reported the incident to the police.
Ojelabi said the suspects were arrested on October 5 following an intelligence-led operation.
The police spokesperson further alleged that Ademakinwa, also known as Igboya Aye-nuru, had sent voice messages threatening some residents of Wasinmi community and warning them to leave the area or face the consequences.
He also linked the suspect to the alleged killing of two passers-by during an attack on police operatives attached to the Ikire Division on August 24.
The command said investigations into the murder were ongoing and that the suspects would be charged in court upon their conclusion.
Man Arrested Over Alleged Defilement of Minor
In a separate development, the police arrested a 45-year-old man, Mukaila Adeyemo, in Ikire over the alleged sexual assault of a minor.
Ojelabi said the suspect allegedly assaulted the girl on two occasions, despite being a friend of her grandmother.
According to the police, the first alleged incident occurred in September when Adeyemo reportedly lured the girl to his house under the pretext of asking her to help purchase some items.
The statement added that on October 2, the victim’s birthday, the suspect allegedly lured her to his workshop in the Ilupeju area of Ikire before taking her to a nearby bush, where the alleged offence occurred.
The police did not disclose further details about the victim, who is a minor.
The command said the case was being handled by its officers as part of efforts to investigate the allegations and ensure that the suspect faced the law if the allegations were established.
