The Chief Imam of Ijebuland, Sheikh Muftaudeen Ayanbadejo, has introduced new regulations on dress code and conduct for worshippers attending Jumat prayers, barring men with plaited hair and those wearing earrings from entering the mosque for the weekly congregational prayer.
The directive was reportedly announced during the Jumat service on Friday, October 9, 2026, as part of efforts to promote discipline, decency and reverence within the mosque.
Under the new regulations, men who plait their hair or wear earrings will no longer be allowed into the mosque for Jumat prayers when the directive takes effect.
Sheikh Ayanbadejo reportedly fixed Friday, October 16, 2026, as the commencement date, giving affected worshippers one week to familiarise themselves with the new rules and make the necessary adjustments.
The Chief Imam also warned worshippers against using mobile phones during prayers, declaring that any person caught operating a phone while prayers were ongoing would have the device seized immediately.
The warning was aimed at discouraging distractions and encouraging worshippers to remain focused during the sacred congregational service.
The directive is expected to generate discussions within the Muslim community over acceptable standards of personal grooming, appearance and conduct during religious activities.
With the implementation date approaching, worshippers have been urged to take note of the announced restrictions and comply with the new regulations.
The rules are scheduled to take effect on Friday, October 16, 2026.
