The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Lawisi Safiyanu, for allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old customer, Muhammad Abba, to death during a dispute over a N500 balance from the purchase of a mobile phone.
The incident reportedly occurred around 12:30am on October 1, 2026, at Chamo village in the Dutse Local Government Area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists.
According to the police, preliminary investigations showed that Abba had bought a mobile phone from Safiyanu for N1,500 but paid N1,000, leaving an outstanding balance of N500.
The unpaid balance allegedly sparked an argument between the two men, which later escalated into a physical confrontation.
The police alleged that Safiyanu subsequently used a knife to stab Abba during the altercation.
The victim was rushed to the Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse for medical attention but reportedly died while receiving treatment.
Following the incident, police operatives arrested the suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.
The command said investigation into the case had been concluded and that the suspect had been charged before a court to face the law.
The police did not disclose further details of the charge or the suspect’s court appearance.
